Miah Mohammad Sumon
"한국에서 이주노동자와 공연예술가로 5년 동안 일했다. 물론 일이 매우 힘들고 때로는 고용주로부터 심한 모욕을 받기도 했지만, 한국에서 좋은 친구들을 많이 만났고 예술 활동을 통해 좋은 추억도 많이 만들었다. 학생 때부터 공팀을 만드는 것을 꿈꿔왔는데 한국에서도 그 꿈을 이루길 바라고 있다. 단순히 일하면서 사는 것보다 사람들과 관계를 맺는 것이 더 중요하다고 생각하기 때문에 예술 활동을 통해 더 나은 삶을 만들고 싶다."
미아 모하마드 수몬은 방글라데시 이주 노동자이자 퍼포먼스 공연팀 멤버이다. 한국에서 5년가까이 일한 후 비자만료로 방글라데시로 돌아갔다가 팬더믹으로 한동안 비자를 재발급받지 못했다. 다시 돌아온 후에도 여전히 퍼포먼스 공연팀으로 활동 중이다. 수몬과 동료들은 거리집회에도 적극적으로 참여하며 공연과 더불어 사업장 이동의 자유와 이주노동자 권리향상, 인종차별 반대를 위한 목소리를 내고 있다.
"I worked as a migrant worker and a performing artist in Korea for five years. Of course, my work is very hard, and sometimes, I was insulted badly by my employer, but I met many good friends in Korea and made many good memories through art activities. Since I was a student, I have dreamed of creating an art team, and I hope it happens in Korea. I want to make a better life through art activities because I think it is more important for people to know and establish relationships than to simply live for work.
Miah Mohammad Sumon is a member of Frame 2, a multi-art performance team formed by Bangladeshi migrant workers and migrant human rights activists. He and his colleagues actively participate in protests and shout slogans for freedom of workplace transfer and fighting against crackdowns and racial discrimination affecting migrant workers. Sumon returned to Bangladesh from Korea due to visa expiration, but he couldn't come to Korea for a while due to COVID-19. After the pandemic, he was finally able to come back to Korea on a new visa.
